Loire Valley

Back on the road, we stopped at a winery in Selles-sur-Cher for lunch.  The owner talked about his business and led us through a tasting of wine and goat cheese.  Yum!

Our next stop was the enormous chateau of Chambord where the multitude of chimneys stood out against the stormy skies.

My hotel room in Amboise overlooked the Loire river where I saw a couple of fishermen trying their luck. I don't know if they were successful.

Sunday morning we visited the "Ladies' Chateau" of Chenonceau (picture above).  I think this is the one I would want for myself if I were queen.  It's luxurious without being overwhelming.

In the afternoon back in Amboise, we were free to visit Leonardo da Vinci's last home at Clos Luce and the town's cliff-top chateau.  As part of the commemorations for the 500th aniversary of Leonardo's death, the townspeople built a large cardboard model of one of his bridge designs.  The kids then ripped it to shreds to end the day's festivities.
